How to create your rent receipt
Create a rent receipt with tenant, landlord, property, month and payment details. Choose a receipt layout, preview the result and download a free PDF.
Fields to fill in
- Tenant and property
- Enter the tenant’s name in Employee Name and the complete rented-property address.
- Landlord and PAN
- Enter the landlord’s name. Choose Rent Receipt with PAN when you need a field for the landlord’s PAN.
- Rent payment
- Select the rental month, receipt date, currency and payment method, then enter the rent amount actually received.
- Acknowledgement
- Use the signature and stamp options available in your receipt layout. Check any received-by name and editable receipt terms.
Create and download in three steps
- Fill your chosen format. Choose a standard rent receipt, or Rent Receipt with PAN when you need the landlord's PAN field. Enter the tenant, landlord, property, rental month, payment date and amount. Signature and stamp options depend on the layout.
- Check the preview. Check that the period and amount match the actual rent payment. Review the template before entering details: this category also includes a separate property-document layout.
- Save the PDF. Review the required confirmations, choose an available paper size and download. Single bill PDFs include a small HOF reference code near the bottom edge.
For multiple documents, use the bulk rent receipt generator to download, fill and upload its Excel template.
Drafts stay in this browser. Read about storage and PDF processing or contact support.
Prepare rent receipts for your records or an employer submission
Keep the rental period, payment date and amount consistent with your actual rent payment. A rent receipt and an HRA calculation answer different questions.
- Tenant, landlord and property
- Enter the names and rented property address. Use the landlord details requested by your employer rather than guessing an identifier.
- Rental period
- State the month or date range covered. If one payment covers several months, make the period and total clear.
- Payment received
- For example, three months at INR 15,000 each totals INR 45,000. The receipt date should reflect when the landlord received that payment.
- Acknowledgment and supporting records
- Review the landlord acknowledgment and retain the payment reference and rental agreement if requested. Keep these records consistent.
For HRA or reimbursement, follow the requirements for your tax year and employer. Generating a receipt does not determine your eligibility or replace proof of a payment.
